Route

Balad’âne is run by a dynamic couple, Karl and Véronique, who offer walks with donkeys in the Sautour region. But that’s not all. They organise birthdays, events and more in the company of these lovable animals.

Donkey rides between Namur and Hainaut

It’s not always easy to go for a walk with family or friends without someone complaining. Donkeys are a winning argument to convince the more hesitant among us to talk a stroll. Not only can you travel through one of the most beautiful natural parks in Wallonia, the Viroin-Hermeton park, but you can also take care of a donkey, an animal that is really easy to take a liking to.

Upon arriving at Karl and Véronique’s farm, you can feel the relaxed, positive atmosphere. You meet the donkeys and learn the tricks to a safe ride. As a matter of fact, donkeys are very intelligent. You’ll love being in contact with these soft and gentle creatures.

Once the introduction is complete, you can set off.

In the Ardennes’ forest

Before you leave, Karl shows you the various routes you can follow in the region. Choose the route that fits your schedule. You can head out for half a day, a full day or even several days. If you choose the latter, you can stay in a bivouac or a bed and breakfast. In that case, trust Karl. He knows the region as well as he knows his donkeys – and that’s saying something.

You leave from Sautour, a peaceful little village with lots of houses made from local stone. The houses soon disappear and give way to countryside.

You enter the famous Viroin-Hermeton Nature Park, a pretty region with untamed sections. You can even continue your journey to the Ardennes’ forest.

Your interactions with the donkey throughout the trip are quite magical and totally change the dynamic. Follow the rhythm of the group, including the donkey, and enjoy taking care of it.

It is also possible to travel with a nature guide, in order to get a better understanding of the environment.

Events, birthdays and activities with donkeys

Karl and Véronique also organise events. Birthday parties with the donkeys are quite popular.

In addition to being lovable, donkeys are also a great conversation starter. As a result, having donkeys for an activity with seniors or people with disabilities can be beneficial.

Another tip: nature courses. Kids love them.

With all these activities, we’re spoilt for choice: would you rather hike or make friends with a donkey?
